** When we first met Marthanoir in a strip club, she didn’t seem very open to talking to us—yet, there was hunger in her eyes.

As our outreach team continued to visit the club, month after month, she opened up and shared some of her story.

As a child and teen, she suffered sexual abuse and assault. Later, after leaving an abusive marriage, she had become a single mother of two kids and wound up homeless.

So she started selling her body to strangers for money, shelter, and food. Then she met a man who was kind at first, but became abusive and trafficked her.

He would drug her, then sell her to his friends while she was literally paralyzed. She only escaped after he pushed her out of a car while going down the highway.

That’s when she started stripping to earn money.

After experiencing harassment and assault, Marthanoir came to hate dancing—and herself. She was depressed and suicidal.


** But it was in this club that she met our outreach team.

They brought gifts, offered services, and spent time talking with her. She felt seen and felt a weight lifting off her.

One of the team members became her life coach, a dear friend, and helped her exit a life of stripping.


** Today, Marathanoir is in a healthy relationship, a healthy home, and has a consistent job.

She’s pursuing her degree and says “I’m happier, safer, healthier. I’ve healed. I am so truly thankful to my life coach and Exodus Cry for their support, compassion and care for me and other survivors.”
