As always, there’s a lot of exciting news in here, including my personal reflections on this last year — my first year leading NIRH, the launch of NIRH’s Birth Justice Policy Lab, and a sampling of how state governments are implementing some of NIRH’s suggestions for action in response to the catastrophic federal budget bill that passed in July.

As we go to “press,” I need to call attention to the latest attack on reproductive freedom by anti-abortion politicians in Congress. These politicians now want to ban all insurance purchased through the Affordable Care Act Marketplace from covering abortion. This is rank hypocrisy — federal funds already can’t be used to cover abortion, even though it’s a critical component of health care, and abortion opponents usually like to claim that they just want regulation of reproductive health care to be left up to the states.

NIRH remains opposed to all restrictions on reproductive freedom, and we will continue to stand with the activists fighting state-by-state battles for bodily autonomy.
