Sonny Burton needs your help to stop his execution before it’s scheduled!
Sonny never took anyone’s life. Police and authorities knew the identity of the
shooter–but while the shooter got a life sentence, Sonny has been on Alabama’s
death row for 33 years.



His execution could be scheduled at any time. So we are working now to
mobilize support from across the country to urge Alabama Governor Kay Ivey to
grant him clemency. Add your name to support clemency for Sonny.

Sonny's conviction rests on only one testimony from a single witness: a
teenage co-defendant testifying to save himself from the death penalty. The
death penalty shouldn’t have been on the table for either of them. But
Alabama’s felony murder rule allows capital punishment to be carried out for a
person who participated in a felony that led to a death.



Because of the felony murder rule, Sonny lives each day uncertain when the
State will send him to the death chamber. Even Alabama state authorities have
called his sentence “arguably unjust,” and yet they are upholding his death
sentence.



Over the years, the courts have been unable to correct the errors in his case.
Clemency is now his last hope to avoid execution.
