It's Deborah.
Two months ago, Republicans in North Carolina forced through a redistricting map that was not just extreme, but deliberately racist in its design.
Their goal was clear: to silence the voices of Black and Brown voters and dilute their political power.
Unfortunately this was not an isolated incident. It's part of a national playbook.
The Supreme Court rubber-stamped this strategy by allowing Texas to keep its own racially discriminatory map. This is an unprecedented assault on the Voting Rights Act and on the very principle of equal representation.
We must fight back.
I’ve joined fellow North Carolina Democrats to reintroduce the Redistricting Transparency and Accountability Act. This bill is a direct response to these blatant power grabs.
It forces lawmakers to be honest with the public, gives communities a real voice in the process, and exposes exactly how new maps would impact minority voters.
We must take map-drawing out of the hands of politicians who use it to discriminate and put it back into the hands of the people.
If you believe our democracy should represent everyone, add your name to our petition demanding Speaker Mike Johnson bring the Redistricting Transparency and Accountability Act to a vote.
In solidarity,
Deborah
