The Supreme Court is poised to gut the Voting Rights Act — and if we want to prevent the end of free and fair elections, we’ve got to be ready to fight back.

Our new report with Black Voters Matter Fund shows that if the Court removes protections against racially discriminatory redistricting, state lawmakers could eviscerate the political power of voters of color — and draw new maps that lock in GOP supermajorities for a generation.

States could eliminate around 191 state legislative seats currently held by Democrats across the South, 140 of which are majority Black or majority Hispanic.

And that’s on top of how the ruling could help Republicans lock in 19 new safe GOP seats in the U.S. House, which would prevent Democrats from taking control even if they secured a decisive victory in the popular vote.
