TELL THE U.S. HOUSE:
Trump’s FCC Chair Brendan Carr has attacked the First Amendment, threatened news networks (except Fox News), and tried to silence critics. He failed to defend his actions in front of Congress yesterday. Lawmakers must hold Carr accountable.
Sign the petition: Impeach Trump’s FCC Chair Brendan Carr!
During a Congressional hearing yesterday, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr could not defend his reign of censorship, chilling of free speech, and pro-Trump threats.1 It’s time for the House to hold Carr accountable and impeach him now! In September, Carr pressured ABC and local broadcasters to cancel Jimmy Kimmel Live! because Kimmel had made jokes that Trump didn’t like.2 Yesterday, Carr continued to defend his crusade to silence critics of Trump, indicating he would continue to go after comedians and news networks for “liberal bias.”3 Senator Amy Klobuchar called out that Carr has launched investigations against every major news network except Fox News.4 Senator Ed Markey urged Carr to resign after turning the FCC into the “Federal Censorship Commission.”5 Congress must hold Carr accountable for his assault on the First Amendment. Sign the petition: Impeach Brendan Carr now! End his pro-Trump censorship crusade at the FCC.Even Ted Cruz criticized Carr’s “we can do this the easy way or the hard way” threats against ABC, Kimmel, and local broadcasters, comparing the FCC chair to a mob boss.6 Cruz added yesterday, “Government officials threatening adverse consequences for disfavored content is an unconstitutional coercion that chills free speech.”7 It’s crystal clear that Carr is abusing his power at the FCC. Carr is a key part of Trump’s attempt to take complete control over every corner of America. The U.S. House has a responsibility to launch an impeachment inquiry to hold Carr accountable NOW. Sign the petition: Urge your U.S. Representative to impeach Carr and protect the First Amendment. Thanks for taking action,
