Friend, I want to take a moment to share a deeply personal decision with you – and explain why I made it. This is a bit of a longer email, but I'd really appreciate it if you read it all the way to the end.

Over the past few months, Texans from every corner of our state have placed their trust in me. You shared your stories, your hopes, and your frustrations. And that meant more to me than I can put into words. 

But as I looked honestly at the path ahead, I also felt a responsibility to do what was best for Texas. 

With three strong Democrats running, it was clear this race would certainly head to a bruising primary and a runoff. And at a moment where Donald Trump is openly defying the Constitution, corruption is rampant, and working families are being crushed by rising costs, that kind of division isn't what I believed was in Texas' best interest. 

So I made a difficult choice: I put my ego aside and decided to run for Congress instead – to represent the Dallas community that raised me.

I ran for Congress once before in the district where I was born and raised – and beat a 22-year incumbent when no one thought I stood a chance. I ran for Senate because I believe in this state and everything it made possible for a kid raised by a single mom. And now, I'm choosing to serve in a different way because I still have more to give. 

I know Dallas, and Dallas knows me. And I know I can be a strong, principled voice in Congress – fighting for working people and rooting out corruption wherever it exists. But I need your help to get there.
