There’s been so much bad news this year that it’s almost impossible to keep up.

That's by design. Part of Trump’s strategy is to overwhelm us on every front, so it starts to feel pointless to even try to fight back.

None of what’s happening is inevitable. The American people don't want masked secret police kidnapping our neighbors off the street, or the federal government turned into a personal ATM for Trump and his family. They didn't vote to surrender our personal freedoms, healthcare, and Social Security to a handful of right-wing oligarchs.

Independent journalism is not all that we need to defeat this fascist threat, but without non-profit news outlets like Common Dreams, what hope is there? The bad news out there is only made worse by corporate media outlets seeking profit while fascism rises, genocides unfold, inequality worsens, and the planet literally burns.
