Dear John,

In the mid-1990s, WRI knew the risk of climate change was growing — but to confront the problem, we first needed clear, reliable data to guide our actions. We also understood that real progress would require governments to act, and that meant inspiring businesses to lead the way. So we brought together dozens of organizations who cared deeply about the planet’s future and set out to create an international standard to help companies understand how their business activities add heat-trapping greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.

What emerged was the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.

Fast forward to today: more than nine out of every ten Fortune 500 companies use the GHG Protocol to track and measure their contribution to climate change, as do hundreds of countries, cities and other jurisdictions all around the world. Reducing emissions will take all of us, and at WRI, we’re building and maintaining the tools that empower people, companies and governments to turn ambition into action.

DONATE TODAY

We can't solve climate change if we don't know how much greenhouse gas is making its way into the atmosphere. Tools like the GHG Protocol are the unsung heroes of the cooler, cleaner, healthier air we’re all pushing for – and these tools are born at WRI.

We can build these world-changing tools because you understand that an idea can spark a movement – and that movement can spark a revolution in how we fight climate change.

The planet needs our next big idea. Can we count on your support again this year to help us find it?

Thank you for your support,
