Equity means EVERYONE has the resources they need and the opportunity to thrive. It requires that we dismantle systems that are racist and exclusionary.
Demonizing immigrants, calling them criminals and blaming them for everything from high prices to bad schools, blocking their access to the courts, schools, churches, hospitals, and employment does the exact opposite.
Under the Trump Administration, ICE is detaining more people than ever, directing its violence towards BIPOC communities. ICE has admitted to racial profiling, arresting immigrants in the middle of their legal process, detaining and deporting U.S. citizens, tearing parents from their young children, and conducting nighttime raids on people as they sleep.
Traffickers will often exploit immigration status, warning survivors that they will be deported if they leave. In this climate, that threat has even more power, keeping survivors in their trafficking situation longer. Survivors who have reported their traffickers to law enforcement have been detained and deported, allowing traffickers to continue harming others. Fear of deportation is keeping many survivors from seeking the safety and protection they deserve.
The rampant uptick in ICE crackdowns is a gift to traffickers.
