Columbine brought the crisis of gun violence to my attention.
But it was losing two beloved friends—one to an unexpected firearm suicide and another who was a police officer shot by his own weapon—that made this issue devastatingly personal for my husband John and me.
What enrages us isn't just the loss. It's that nearly 1,700 Pennsylvanians die from gun violence every year while the gun industry buys lawmakers to ensure their refusal to act.
I was a state legislator when the last gun safety bill passed in Pennsylvania, friend . I saw firsthand how CeaseFirePA helped move this lifesaving legislation despite fierce NRA opposition. That's a big reason why I became a board member.
In the 7 years since I left Harrisburg, we’ve seen some progress, but as this crisis continues, the need for action is urgent, and John and I want to put our money where our mouths are .
If you believe, like we do, that we need action to end the gun violence crisis that is destroying lives and communities, I’m asking you to join us in making a generous end-of-year gift today. You can donate here. >> [[link removed]]

Complaining about gun violence and political inaction doesn’t help. Thoughts and prayers won’t stop this crisis. We need real leadership and action to reduce gun violence, and CeaseFirePA provides both.
We give to CeaseFirePA every year, but this year we’re increasing our gift tenfold. Here’s why:
* Because of actions by the Trump administration, a lot of nonprofits are hurting. It’s important that we all invest in the work we believe in so we can keep it going.
* Gun violence is entirely preventable, and no one should have to live in fear of being gunned down in the street, at a movie theater, or at school. And with federal leadership hostile to gun safety, state-level work matters more than ever.
* Even though we don’t have children, John and I feel a powerful commitment to leaving this world a better place. Supporting CeaseFirePA is one way we can do that.
We have the knowledge to curb the effects of gun violence on the lives of Pennsylvanians; what we don’t have is the political will.
Whether you give $25 or $2,500, you're helping build the power we need to save lives. This work is a moral imperative. Please consider a gift to stop gun violence in Pennsylvania. [[link removed]]
