As we approach the end of 2025, I hope you are enjoying sharing special moments with friends and family this Christmas season.
It’s crunch time in Congress as we aim to finalize our work for 2025 and prepare for legislative activity in 2026. As always, I welcome your feedback on policies you would like to see enacted in Washington. My goal is always to listen, learn, and act on your behalf.
Recent weeks saw positive news for agriculture, education, and gas prices. I also filed legislation to strengthen flood insurance for flood prone communities in Louisiana.
Please feel free to always reach out to my office directly when you have questions, comments, or concerns. My office is always accessible through our website by clicking here. We are here to serve you!
Sincerely,
Julia Letlow, Ph.D.
Member of Congress
Lowering Gas Prices
Many of my constituents have continued to raise concerns with the cost of living after years of inflation. Thankfully, pro-energy policies from President Trump and Republicans have turned around one key measure of affordability: gas prices. Gas prices nationwide are at a 5-year low of $2.90 per gallon, and even lower in Louisiana. These improvements aren’t random, but the result of policies we have implemented this year to cut red tape and increase domestic energy production. In Louisiana, we know how to produce the energy America needs at an affordable cost. We just need the government to stay out of the way.
Strengthening Flood Insurance
Louisianans know all too well the toll that dangerous flooding can take on homes, families, and communities. The National Flood Insurance Program is a lifeline for many Louisianans in flood-prone communities. Unfortunately, many families were unable to renew or access new flood insurance policies during the government shutdown. That’s why I joined with my colleagues to file bipartisan legislation to ensure that flood insurance automatically continues its core operations - even if Congress misses a scheduled deadline to reauthorize the program. With this bill, we can ensure that Washington drama doesn’t negatively affect our Louisiana families. Learn more about the legislation here.
Supporting Louisiana Farmers
With planting season not far off, President Trump announced new support for our Louisiana farmers at a time when we are collecting significant tariff revenue. As the President continues working to fix decades of unfair trade practices from adversaries like China, his administration is prioritizing ensuring that Louisiana farmers have the resources they need for the future. This aid package is music to the ears of our farmers, and I wholeheartedly support providing a bridge for the producers at the heart of our nation’s food supply. I look forward to a future with more market access for our farmers and less cheating by our trading partners.
Fighting for Better Education
I firmly believe that when you provide a child an education, you give them a future. As a former educator, much of my work in Congress is driven around fighting for a better education for the next generation. President Trump’s signature agenda item that I supported, the One Big Beautiful Bill, included an important expansion of workforce development programs that is set to begin next year. The Trump Administration is working to implement “Workforce Pell,” which will allow low-income tuition assistance historically for students attending colleges to also cover short-term job training programs. This change will provide important support for young people who want to go straight into the workforce and fill the in-demand jobs our economy needs.
Constituent Visits
Visiting with constituents and listening to their concerns is my favorite part of serving in Congress. I always love catching up with Louisianans when I’m home as well as in DC, so I can gain perspective on the issues people are facing. Sometimes I’m able to hear some cool stories too! Thank you to Earl Himel from Livingston Parish for showing me an ink pen he made from deckwood from the USS Alabama (used by our Navy during WW2)!
