Greater Greater Washington

Hi Friend,

Fundraising emails are hard to write! You’ll get so many over the next couple weeks, and I spent way more time than I should agonizing over how to word this one. Boy, did I have some great potential themes for a fundraising email, such as:

  • We have an office with a window now, and here’s why you should donate to us
  • Look how much our team has grown this year: Here’s why you should donate to us
  • I went to my 20th high school reunion last month. Here’s why some stuff that happened to me in high school is relevant to you donating to us
tl;dr? Donate here

But I need to put writing this email aside, because this is such a busy time of year here at GGWash. Mark Clements, our Maryland Policy Manager, and I are busy getting ready for the Maryland General Assembly session next month. We can’t wait to tell you about the exciting legislation we’re working on that will unlock opportunities to build thousands of homes, and more affordable homes, across the state.

We’re also about to kick off some opinion polling that will really dig into how Marylanders view housing issues ahead of the session. And of course, we’re writing posts! I still have to finish this week’s Do Something, where Alex Baca, our DC policy director, and I share things that you can do to make our corner of the world a little better.

Pretty soon, we’ll gear up for our 2026 endorsements for Montgomery County Executive and County Council, which will be one of the region’s most consequential elections. A few weeks ago, all of our endorsees in Maryland and Virginia were reelected as part of a national pro-homes wave, and I’m excited to keep that momentum going. Our endorsements are powered exclusively by readers like you, which means that your donation does double duty: it supports our advocacy, and helps put people in power who can turn that advocacy into legislation.

Okay, it looks like I’ve actually written most of a fundraising email. Phew! That was easier than I thought. Now all I have to do is include a link where you can donate, which is right here. We’re hoping to raise $12,000 by the end of the year. Excitingly, our board has pledged a 1:1 match up to $10,000, so every donation between now and December 31 will help us to unlock that funding.

Thanks for reading this fundraising email! Back to work–but in the meantime, I hope you have a great holiday and a happy new year. I’ll see you soon!

Take care,
Dan Reed
Maryland Policy Director
