Much like the concerned scientist in the disaster movie whose dire warnings fall on deaf ears —

Defend Our Courts has been working desperately for the last seven months to inform the voting public about MAGA’s alarming plan to take over critical state courts across America.

Now we’ve just received a soul-crushing example of what happens when we lose one of these courts to the far-right:

The Arkansas State Supreme Court just gave the Republican state legislature a green light to kill any constitutional amendment passed by voters.

As the Arkansas Times eloquently puts it:

“Even when Arkansans manage the Herculean task of collecting tens of thousands of signatures and jumping through the myriad hoops Republicans have placed in the path of a constitutional amendment reaching the ballot, the Legislature can simply change or reverse that measure.”

If voters were to pass an amendment to loosen Arkansas’s near-total ban on abortions, state lawmakers could simply undo it after the fact. Every person in Arkansas could vote to save abortion, and it wouldn’t matter. Arkansas just lost its democracy. Full stop.

This is what is at stake if MAGA takes your local State Supreme Court. Overnight, they can enshrine one-party MAGA rule, implement redistricting, and rule that your votes no longer matter as Arkansas’s Supreme Court just did.

While it’s too late for Arkansas, there is time to save courts in Arizona, Michigan, and Georgia, where MAGA is working overtime to seize their courts. Everything is on the line, but sadly, state courts are a hard issue to get donors to care about. We need your support to protect them.
