2025. What a year!

Hi John,

As the year wraps up, we hope you’re able to take a well-earned breather and look back on what we’ve achieved together in 2025. It’s been a busy one, but also a year full of momentum, brilliant new ideas and real progress.

A couple of standout moments helped spark important conversations. During Diabetes Week, we reached hundreds of thousands of you about the importance of getting vital health checks. Then, just last month on World Diabetes Day, we kicked off our Strike Out Stigma campaign, connecting with millions and helping to shift how diabetes is talked about.

We also saw our flagship One Million Step Challenge raise over £1 million, alongside a truly historic moment for diabetes research. For the first time ever, an immunotherapy for type 1 diabetes has been licensed for use in the UK. It's the sort of development that can only happen because of the depth of your support.

None of this happens without you. Thank you to everyone who campaigned, volunteered, fundraised and stayed engaged with us this year. Your support makes a real difference, and together we’re building towards an even stronger 2026.

Festive fun!

Christmas is all about enjoying yourself, including a few festive favourites you don’t have every day. But with so many tempting foods and drinks around, managing diabetes can feel a bit trickier at this time of year. We’ve pulled together some simple tips and healthier Christmas recipes to help you enjoy the season while still looking after yourself.

A research revolution

Big research news this month. Our DiRECT trial has shown some potentially spectacular cost savings for the NHS, which could save them a whopping £1 billion. Meanwhile, Professor Sarah Richardson’s team has uncovered why type 1 hits young children so hard, paving the way for prevention, better treatments, and one day, cures.

We hope you have a wonderful festive break and we're looking forward to more incredible work in 2026. See you on the other side!

Best wishes,

Henry from Diabetes UK
