As Vice President of Development here at Run for Something, I spend a lot of time worrying about spreadsheets and budgets, but that’s not why I’m writing.
I’m writing because 2026 is going to be a huge year for local and state elections and we either go into it prepared or watch the same old guard make the same old mistakes.
Here’s what we believe and what your year-end gift changes:
-
Politics is stuck on repeat because the same older generation calls the shots.
-
The people making the rules don’t look like the people living under them.
-
Real change starts locally—in school boards, city councils, and state legislatures where decisions about housing, health care, education, and basic freedoms actually happen.
-
And right now, too few young, diverse leaders have a seat at those tables.
So our answer to the problem of entrenched do-nothing politicians is to recruit, train, and support young, diverse progressives with real lived experience (like renters, teachers, caregivers, organizers) who will genuinely serve their communities.
Your year-end gift makes that possible.
Make a year-end donation right now to fund the coaching, mentorship, and campaign tools first-time candidates rely on—especially the ones who could never afford it alone.
