Hi Revealer,
Kara McGuirk-Allison here, senior radio editor for the Center for Investigative Reporting. I was thrilled to help debut our new podcast, More To The Story, in March. With an approach that’s complementary to Reveal’s long-form investigative work, we sit down with the people behind the headlines for candid conversations that provide the nuance and depth the daily news cycle cannot. I hope you’ve had a chance to check it out!
We’ve featured Nikole Hannah-Jones discussing efforts to erase Black history from schools, David Hogg offering sharp critique of political leadership, and student activist Mohsen Mahdawi sharing his firsthand account of arrest at his own immigration hearing. Every episode combines powerful storytelling with deep analysis, connecting historical injustices to the systems that perpetuate them today.
While a dispiriting number of institutions—from big law firms to Ivy League universities and major news organizations—are caving to pressure from the Trump administration, our nonprofit newsroom continues pursuing stories wherever they lead.
That’s only possible because we aren’t beholden to corporate or government funding. We answer only to you, our listeners. And that independence is precisely what allows us to shine a light into the dark corners of power and ask the difficult questions others won't.
What that means in practice is that we face the tough task every year of raising the many millions of dollars that it takes to make all the public media magic happen directly from you—the public. It will always be free to listen to Reveal and More To The Story, but great journalism like this is anything but free to produce.
Getting a new show off the ground—especially at a moment when other outlets are playing it safe or shutting down—requires resources and resolve. Fortunately, we've always had generous supporters who are willing to pay for the journalism they rely on.
I’m hoping you’ll join those proud ranks by making a special year-end gift today. Your tax-deductible donation will ensure we can continue this essential work in 2026.
