Meet the Latest Community Innovation Grant Program Recipients

We awarded $ 130,000 to 13 organizations through our Community Innovation Grant program. The one-year, project-based grants rare made possible by an ongoing partnership with the Bush Foundation.

The investments will help Minnesota communities find more effective, equitable, and sustainable solutions to challenges and opportunities. “I’m always struck by the range of work that Community Innovation grantees do, and am equally proud to see these people-driven investments go where they’re needed,” said David Nicholson, Headwaters Foundation Executive Director.

Applicants were asked to define their community, identify a challenge or opportunity, and outline their proposed solution. Throughout July, a committee of community members reviewed applications against program criteria and made funding recommendations to the Headwaters Board of Directors.

Headwaters accepts Community Innovation Grant applications online three times per year. The third and final round of 2019 will open on Wednesday, September 11th at 9 a.m. Program staff will host three hour-long information sessions next month. The first is scheduled for Thursday, September 5th at 11 a.m.; the second is set for Wednesday, September 11th at 2 p.m.; and the third will be on Monday, September 16th at 6 p.m. Visit our events page <[link removed]> for registration details.
