Dear John, Across the country, powerful corporate interests are spending millions to weaken unions, silence workers, and stack the deck in favor of the wealthy. Here at the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD), our investigative journalists dig into dark-money corporate networks like the massive Koch influence machine, uncover coordinated attacks on collective bargaining, and shine a bright light on the lobbyists and front groups pushing anti-worker laws. We expose what they want to keep hidden.
This year, CMD exposed the right-wing Freedom Foundation’s launch of a new organization to “destroy” teachers unions and their hiring of the scandal-plagued Ryan Walters — who resigned as Oklahoma’s state superintendent in September — to lead that effort. We revealed the corporate-backed groups behind Utah’s new ban on collective bargaining by public employees. And we published a “Know Your Enemy” guide to the dark money groups attacking unions in the states, including ALEC (the American Legislative Exchange Council) and its anti-union playbook. Right now, America’s embattled workers need watchdogs who won’t back down. They need independent reporting that identifies who’s writing anti-union legislation, who’s funding it, and how these efforts spread from state to state.
Here’s what your support of CMD makes possible: -
Exposing corporate-funded campaigns designed to undermine unions and lower wages. -
Tracking model legislation that weakens worker protections. -
Holding elected officials accountable when they side with special interests over working people. -
Empowering journalists, researchers, and the public with timely and accessible information.
