Dear Friend,

It’s great to be able to report that the pro-abortion motion voted on in the Dáil last night was defeated by 73 votes to 71.

Thanks to everyone who took the time yesterday to contact and lobby their local TDs.

If reinstated and subsequently passed into law, the radical pro-abortion bill would have among other things permitted abortion up to birth on request.

We put in a huge effort yesterday to ensure this wouldn’t happen and it's so encouraging to be able to point to what we can achieve by being informed, committed and active. The outstanding pro-life TDs in the Dáil also worked tirelessly to convince their colleagues to oppose the bill moving forward. It was wonderful for once to see pro-life celebrations in Leinster House last night after the vote!

While it’s true that a vote to progress such a radical proposal should never be so close, it’s also true that a growing number of TDs are engaging more seriously with the pro-life perspective, particularly in light of the sharp rise in abortions and the harm they're causing to women as well as babies under the current law.
