The Republican Party of San Diego County Mourns The Passing of Long-time Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister

(SAN DIEGO, CA) – It is with great sadness that the Republican Party of San Diego County notes the passing this morning of Dan McAllister, longtime Treasurer-Tax Collector of San Diego County.

Although the office he held was nonpartisan, we are proud to acknowledge that Dan McAllister was a Republican officeholder whose exemplary public service will guide others for many years to come. First elected in 2002, he served continuously until his retirement in August of this year. He was 73 years old at the time of his death.

Dan carried out his duties with the highest professionalism and competence. During his tenure, he was responsible for managing the County’s $18 billion liquid investment pool, serving more than 200 public agencies throughout the San Diego region. For a record-setting 25 consecutive years, those funds earned the highest possible Fitch ratings—an achievement that contributed significantly to the County’s enduring reputation for fiscal strength.

Larry Cohen, Dan’s successor as Treasurer-Tax Collector, acknowledged the importance of his predecessor’s leadership: “It was under Dan’s leadership that the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s Office achieved triple-A ratings and collected an impressive 99% of taxes year after year. These are tax dollars that help our county function effectively and remain safe.”

In addition to his official duties, Dan served on the boards of several organizations, including the San Diego County Employees Retirement Association, CalTRUST, the Peace Corps, and Habitat for Humanity. He also served as board chair of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation and as president of the State Association of County Retirement Systems.

Dan McAllister lived a life of great accomplishment. He leaves behind a legacy of integrity and service, and his family, friends, and colleagues can be proud of their connection to him. We mourn his passing, will miss him greatly, and offer our sincere condolences to his family.

The Republican Party of San Diego County meets on the second Monday of every even month at 7:00 PM. Meetings are open to all San Diego Republicans but require an online RSVP. To learn more visit SanDiegoRepublicans.org.
