John — the Secretary of Defense is tasked with running the largest organization in the United States.
He manages millions and millions of uniformed personnel and civilian contractors, relationships with our global partners, hundreds of billions of dollars in funding, and the most complex and fast-moving threat environment in any of our lifetimes.
It’s arguably the most important job in the country after the President. That’s Pete Hegseth’s job, and this is what he is focused on:
Hegseth wakes up in the morning, looks in the mirror, and rehearses the lines Trump writes for him. He books hero dress-up photo shoots for himself. He does right-wing media hits with his friends. And, apparently, he sits on Twitter posting about Mark Kelly.
It’s all about optics for this guy. He’s trying to project strength and stamp out dissent. He thinks that if he can look tough and make an example out of Mark Kelly, he’ll scare everyone else into silence and obedience. Straight out of the authoritarian playbook.
One problem for Pete: It’s not going to work.
Mark Kelly won’t be silenced. No chance. No way.
