Herbert, every time I check social media, I brace myself — because I know there’s a good chance I’ll see a comment like this:
“You guys look like pedophiles. We must ban this homo parenting shit asap.”
“People like you should honestly be in prison.”
“Shame on you, in a just society you two would be in a psych ward.”
Herbert — I’m a gay dad running for Congress, and bigots see that as a threat. They want families like mine to disappear.
Herbert, I am humbly asking: Will you be one of the people who proves them wrong? Will you stand with me against these attacks — and show that America rejects this hate? Will you help us close our fundraising gap before midnight so the people shouting “pedophile” and “f*ggot” don’t get to define who we are? I need 450 more supporters to step up in the next 5 hours to push back on this wave of hate, WIN this seat despite all of the bigotry, and be the race that hands Democrats control of Congress. Will you chip in $15 before midnight to stand with me against these attacks? >>
Herbert... here’s the part that keeps me going:
Those messages do NOT represent Maine. They do NOT represent our country.
Because right next to those awful attacks are messages like this:
“This campaign gives me hope.”
“I’m proud to live in a state where a family like yours can run and win.”
“You remind me what Maine stands for.”
And every time, I feel a rush of gratitude, because the truth is: the good outweighs the vitriol — but only if we choose to stand up against hate. The support I’ve received from people across the country is why I believe we can win this race.
But, Herbert — here’s the part that scares me.
While everyday Mainers are lifting us up, Trump’s MAGA megadonors just poured $917k into my opponent’s campaign to try to buy this seat. They’re flooding the district because they know this is the tipping point race that could decide the House Majority.
And the people sending those hateful messages?
They want that money to drown us out.
They want to believe they speak for Maine.
They want to believe families like mine don’t belong here.
Herbert, I’m still 450 gifts short of where I need to be before midnight — and falling short would hand a win to the very people sending those hateful messages. If you believe America is better than this, I’m asking you to help me close this fundraising gap, fight back against the MAGA Establishment, and keep this must-win House seat out of their hands. Will you rush $15 before midnight? >>
Thank you for standing with me,
Jordan Wood
