We can all see that our health care system is broken. In the wealthiest country in the world, tens of millions are left behind and struggle to pay for their care.
Over 27 million people have no insurance at all, and millions more are covered on paper but still face crushing premiums, sky-high deductibles, and out-of-pocket costs they simply can’t afford. Too many Americans are skipping medications, delaying care, or going into debt just to stay alive. That’s not care — it’s cruelty.
And now, because of poor decisions made by Trump and Republicans in Congress, including rolling back key Affordable Care Act protections and allowing critical premium subsidies to lapse, marketplace premiums are spiking. This leaves many enrollees facing increases of more than $1,000 per year and some seeing their insurance costs double or even triple in price.
To put it plainly, that means more people are going to be priced out of their coverage or forced to gamble with their health.
We know there’s a better way, John. Every other major country across the world guarantees health care as a basic right, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy or well-connected.
No one should be afraid to go to the doctor because of the bill. No one should risk bankruptcy for a hospital visit. In the United States, health care should mean dignity, security, and peace of mind for everyone.
