Clara hatched in an industrial egg farm, where cruelty is the norm and suffering never ends. She will spend her life packed with other hens in a cage with wire flooring that tears her feet and bars that rub away her feathers. Clara will never spread her wings, see the sun, or feel relief.
Clara will be forced to lay egg after egg—around 300 each year. Her genetically manipulated body, pushed far beyond what nature intended, has been turned into a machine at the cost of her freedom and well-being.
Still, something deeply rooted will stir within her: the instinct to protect her eggs, to build a nest, to nurture life. But she will never get the chance. Each egg will slip through the wires before she can even turn to see it.
Clara will endure this suffering until her body gives out—or she is killed when her production slows.
