John,
Last night, Donald Trump ordered a total and complete naval blockade of Venezuelan oil tankers – that is an act of war by the United States.
First and most urgently, Trump does not have the authority to take us into war — Congress must reassert its constitutional war powers to prevent him from leading us into another illegal, forever war. Today, a bipartisan group of members is forcing a vote on the War Powers Resolution, and every single member of Congress should vote for it to stop this from escalating any further.
An overwhelming majority of voters across the country do not want to see us go to war with Venezuela. They do not want to see the same excuses that dragged us into endless wars in the Middle East be used to justify more money to the corporate war machine and Big Oil that sacrifices our safety for their profits.
Let’s be clear — this is not about drugs, this is not about fentanyl. Republicans and Trump himself have made it clear: this is about waging a regime change war so Trump can steal Venezuela’s oil reserves for himself and his billionaire buddies in the Big Oil industry.
This is Iraq all over again.
Politicians are so desperate to line their own pockets, they’re willing to put every American in harm's way to do so. Not only that, but they’re willing to lead us all into a broader, regional war that will destabilize the entire region for years to come.
No more endless wars for oil, no more endless wars for regime change, no more endless wars at all.
We need more Democrats in Congress with the courage to fight back against Washington’s war machine — not cozy up to corporate defense contractors and Big Oil lobbies encouraging Trump to take us to war.
We have the opportunity to replace those do-nothing, corporate-backed Democrats with bold, progressive champions who will oppose endless wars like this in the upcoming 2026 Democratic primaries — but ONLY with enough grassroots support.
In solidarity,
Alexandra Rojas
