Hi John,

[Urgent note: voting ends in 2 weeks and I need to reach our base of voters and let them know they have a progressive candidate to vote for. Can you rush a $3 donation now, so I can pay for more ads and mailers to these voters? My win on August 4 depends on you. Thank you!]

Well look who’s changed his tune. Here’s my Democratic opponent, Rep. Derek Kilmer, on a conference call today:

“‘This is an emergency. And getting bogged down in trying to identify offsets is not appropriate in an emergency,’ Rep. Derek Kilmer, D-Wash., the chair of the centrist New Democrat Coalition, told reporters on a conference call Monday.” -NBC News, July 20, 2020

The article also states: “The leaders of a group of fiscally conscious House Democrats say the coronavirus crisis has sidelined concerns about the national debt.”

Yet just 7 weeks ago, Kilmer signed a letter that stated: “As the crisis recedes and our nation recovers, we cannot ignore the pressing issue of the national debt, which could do irreparable damage to our country.” (emphasis added)

Kilmer was the only Democrat in Washington state who joined with Republicans to sign this letter, which supported Mitt Romney’s plan to cut Social Security.

My, how times have changed. I’m not running to push Kilmer to the left; I’m running to win. At the same time, it is satisfying to see him responding to pressure. Can you chip in $3 now, so I can keep applying pressure and win the primary in 2 weeks?

The truth has always been this: Republicans and corporate Democrats only care about the federal debt when it comes to social programs like Social Security. Somehow, the debt never comes up when they’re passing budgets for endless wars and corporate bailouts.

This is what I believe:

  • You deserve a decent, dignified, secure retirement.

  • You deserve an affordable home.

  • You deserve healthcare without worrying about going bankrupt.

  • You deserve a good, family-wage, union job.

  • You deserve a clean environment.

  • You deserve healthy food to eat.

All of the above is not only morally right, but practical and possible.

We have the money.

What we lack is the political will.

I have the political will, and I will always fight for you in Congress.

If you can, please give $3 now, so I can win on August 4 and show the corporate establishment that their small way of thinking is over, and the time for big ideas is here:
