Dear Neighbor, I hope you are well.

This week, I have a flurry of information that I’d like to share with you. Below, you’ll find my upcoming holiday office hours, the registration link to attend my Inclusive Post-High School Resource Fair in January, a legislative update from Harrisburg involving a bill that I’m a co-sponsor on, a congratulatory message to Historic Trappe for receiving a grant and a special announcement about one of our high school interns! I also have an important update on the current Ridge Pike construction and businesses nearby.

As always, I hope you find the information below useful.

Rep. Melissa Shusterman’s Bill Passes Committee

I’m pleased to share that Rep. Melissa Shusterman’s House Bill 2024, of which I am a co-sponsor, was reported out unanimously from the Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee this week. H.B. 2024, titled Increasing Awareness of Military Sexual Trauma, ensures that county directors of Veterans’ Affairs are trained in trauma-informed care, specifically including military sexual trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury.

I want to thank the tireless veterans who have advocated for this bill and who have put countless hours into speaking with lawmakers to ensure this unanimous support from the House Veteran Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committee. It will continue to have my support when it makes it way to the full House for consideration.

Those who made the decision to serve our great nation through military service and then suffered through sexual trauma during that service deserve better than silence and cover-ups. They deserve justice.

Historic Trappe Awarded Grant

I’m pleased to announce that Historic Trappe received a $25,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission as a part of its Cultural and Historical Support Grant Program to 177 eligible museums and official county historical societies across the commonwealth.

The goal of this program is to strengthen PA’s museum community by supporting their general operations.

Funding Public Libraries

The Pennsylvania state budget included a 7.1% increase in funding for the public library subsidy. This $5 million total increase will support learning, education initiatives and access to information in communities across PA. We’ll see this directly impact our community too, with the Montgomery County-Norristown Library receiving a $152,000 increase in funding and a $6,000 increase for Lower Providence Community Library.

For me, access to books and information is a longstanding and personal commitment. As young as eight years old, librarians suggested books to me that changed my world and answered questions I wasn’t even thinking about asking yet. Starting with a Willie Mays’ child-level biography all the way up to graduate-level research, books have had a tremendous impact on my life. Both Montgomery County-Norristown Library and Lower Providence Community Library serve residents all around our community, and I’m proud to have voted for this funding increase.

Property Tax/Rent Rebate Deadline

This is a friendly reminder that the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program application deadline has been extended to December 31, 2025. This program, which is eligible to older adults and people with disabilities 18 years or older, supports homeowners and renters across PA with rebates ranging from $380 to $1,000.

The forms are available for pick-up in my district office! If you need assistance filling out an application, please call ahead to schedule an appointment.

Businesses Open During Ridge Construction

Hey, neighbors! I wanted to send a reminder that all businesses are open during the current construction on Ridge Pike. Signs and entrances to each business are to be maintained and ensured that they are clearly visible to the public from the roadway!

During this construction, Ridge Pike will be reduced to a single lane in each direction 24/7 between Germantown Pike and Crosskeys Road. Drivers are advised to plan accordingly and practice safe driving habits while crews are at work.

We are so proud and wish you the best of luck in your next chapter. Join me in congratulating Bo on this remarkable achievement!
