John,

News just broke that the U.S. Senate is considering an amendment that would transform the national parks system as we know it, and not for the better.

Sen. Mike Lee (Utah) has proposed an amendment that would encourage selling off, transferring and giving away national park land. We can't let this happen.[1]

Tell your U.S. senators: Don't sell off our national parks.

National parks have been hailed as America's best idea and for good reason. These are the places where buffalo roam and redwoods tower, where climbers can test their alpine prowess and children can develop a love of the outdoors beneath skies bright with stars.[2]

We're not the only ones who love these iconic places. Last year, more than 331 million people visited America's national parks -- that's more than twice the number of people who tune in to watch the Superbowl.[3]

From Yellowstone's Grand Prismatic Spring to the alpine meadows of Rocky Mountain National Park here in Colorado,, these one-of-a-kind places have been filling generations of visitors with appreciation and awe. It's time to protect them for generations to come.

Tell your U.S. senators: National parks should be celebrated, not sold.

As we approach America's 250th birthday, we must consider what kind of legacy we hope to leave.

Do we give away our national parks? Or do we take action to defend the wildlife and natural places that have helped define our national character for hundreds of years?

For thousands, even millions of years, the mountains, canyons, plains and forests in our national parks have been forming. It only takes a moment to speak up for their preservation.

Please call on your U.S. senators to protect our national parks.
