It’s time to get serious about a new generation of leaders

I am furious.

The enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, the support that keeps premiums affordable for millions, are about to expire. And what are Doug LaMalfa and the GOP leadership doing about it? Nothing.

They had a simple job: to prevent a healthcare catastrophe.

They had a chance to stop average premiums from more than doubling for families.

They chose to look the other way, prioritizing political games over your well-being.

This isn't a mistake. It’s a betrayal.

This week, Republican House leadership simply refused to vote on extending ACA subsidies. They are standing idly by as families face an average 114% increase in what they pay for health insurance.

It’s no surprise that Doug LaMalfa is sitting silent while we stare down skyrocketing costs. He treats our health like a political game. It’s no surprise Doug LaMalfa failed to sign on to the discharge petition that will force a vote on extending the ACA subsidies. He takes his marching orders from Donald Trump, corporate interests, and Washington insiders, not from the people of Northern California.

Are you as angry as I am at the dysfunction in Washington that keeps ignoring the will of “we the people”? Then join us in our fight to send LaMalfa packing and get the representation we need from someone whose priority is my neighbors here in California’s first district.

Costs will skyrocket: Imagine trying to cover a 114% price hike on your monthly budget.

Our rural hospitals will suffer: With more uninsured people, our local clinics and hospitals will be less able to keep their doors open. This is a human and an economic toll we can’t afford.

We can't let them win.

I am running for Congress because I know we deserve to be treated with dignity and fairness, and because healthcare is a human right. Unlike LaMalfa, I don't take a dime of corporate PAC money. My loyalty is to the people I grew up with and taught, working families across Northern California who make our communities what they are.

In Washington, I will not stand for this. I will be a compassionate, effective champion who will fight to permanently expand healthcare access and strengthen rural care for all of us.
