The GOP doesn’t want you to know about this.

John,

As one of their last acts before leaving town for the holidays, House Republicans just voted to raise your energy bills. Talk about adding insult to injury!

They just passed a bill misleadingly called the “Power Plant Reliability Act.” It has nothing to do with reliability and everything to do with protecting failing coal plants and padding the pockets of fossil fuel executives.

Will you chip in now to help our SEEC Members in Congress fight back and stop this massive giveaway to corporate polluters?

Here is the simple truth: The Trump Administration is using a little known emergency authority to force aging coal plants to stay online, even when their owners want to shut them down because they’re too costly to run. These plants are outdated, expensive, and unnecessary.

Under current law, Trump can only force them to stay online for 90 days. House Republicans just voted to expand it to five years. That’s 1,825 days!

That means communities and states would have no say, and ratepayers would be forced to cover the cost. Estimates say if this became law, it could add $6 billion every year to our energy bills — money that goes straight to the pockets of fossil fuel executives while families and small businesses pay more.

This was a deliberate vote to raise energy costs and Republicans don’t want you to know about it! Our SEEC Members are speaking out, but we need your help. Chip in today to help us expose this giveaway to the fossil fuel industry and fight for clean, affordable energy!
