Blessed is the fruit of thy womb” (Lk 1:42)
Today is Day of 8 of our Twelve Days of Advent Campaign.
We have now raised 61% of the Advent campaign total (thank you!) but must raise the rest by Christmas Day.

Dear
SPUC supporter,
The encounter between Our Lady and St Elizabeth is one of the most beautiful related in the Gospels.
As Elizabeth approaches her cousin Mary, she feels the baby within her own womb “leap with joy” and exclaims:
“Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.”
This beautiful affirmation of her unborn child greeted Mary at the beginning of a journey full of sorrows and joys.
Tragically many women never hear such affirming words. They are never told that the child they bear is a blessing.
Instead, they are rejected by those who should have cherished and protected them and their child.
A recent academic study found that internationally between 34% and 64% of women who had abortions “felt pressured by others”.
And a BBC survey found that 15% of ALL women in Britain have been coerced in relation to abortion.
Coercive abortion is a huge problem in Britain, and SPUC is fighting to bring it to light.
From the beginning of the abortion battle, SPUC has been at the forefront in giving a voice to women hurt by abortion.
These suffering mothers have been denied a voice by the culture of death and its advocates in the political and media establishment.
SPUC responded to their pain and founded one of the very first helplines to help women, and men, suffering after abortion.
The Abortion Care and Recovery Helpline – now run by our sister organisation, the SPUC Research and Education Trust – is helping women every single day of the week.
And SPUC’s Her Voice project is providing a space for women to share their abortion experiences so that they can help other women and save babies’ lives.
And some of the most crucial lifesaving work has been done by pro-lifers witnessing outside abortion clinics.
These brave men and women have saved many lives, and delivered many women from torment, by being there to say:
“Blessed is the fruit of thy womb.”
For many women, an encounter with a pro-lifer is the first time the humanity of their baby, and their identity as a mother, has been affirmed.
That’s what make recent “buffer zone” laws so evil.
Legislation passed by Westminster and at Holyrood has allowed the imposition of “exclusion zones” which
prevent pro-life witness and offers of assistance near clinics.
Pro-lifers have even been arrested for silent prayer.
SPUC is determined to see an end to “buffer zones”.
We want to make sure that women get the help they need and that the rights of pro-lifers to engage in public prayer and protest are protected.
SPUC is:
* Keeping this unjust legislation in the public eye through our media work and outreach to the general public
* Organising acts of public witness, like our protest outside the Scottish Parliament last year
* Deploying our professional lobbying team to make sure MPs and Peers know just how damaging this legislation is
* Developing new grassroots initiatives – like our Project Truth Pods – to reach women on the streets of our town and cities
* Growing our branch network so that women can find help and support in their local communities
* Expanding our outreach in churches, schools, colleges and universities
* Launching new media initiatives to counter pro-abortion propaganda online, on the platforms young women use.
All of these projects are essential, and all of them are funded by individual donations like yours.
That’s why I would like to invite you to support our Twelve Days of Advent Campaign, if you haven’t yet done so. (If you have, thank you!)
So far this month, we have only received 61% of the income we need to ensure that our Advent financial target is met.
We must receive the final 39% by Christmas.

Every day babies are being killed by abortion, and everyday mothers and fathers are receiving wounds that will last a lifetime.
Abortion must be brought to an end.
But we can only do it with your help.
Will you give to SPUC today, and save a baby, a mother, or a father, from the horror of abortion?

Thank you for your generosity and love this Advent!
Yours sincerely,
John Deighan
Chief Executive
P.S. Abortion leaves permanent wounds. An innocent baby is deprived of life before they have even left the womb. And the scars left on the mother, father, and other members of the family, rarely fully heal.
We must defeat abortion.
We must end it now.
Please give generously. We have already lost 10 million lives.
