Trump orders blockade of oil tankers into Venezuela, ramping up pressure on Maduro

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Brian Tyler Cohen goes deep on Trump chief of staff Susie Wiles' wild Vanity Fair tell-all
Cohen just had a field day with yesterday's big news. To recap: Donald Trump's chief of staff, Susie Wiles, gave a surprisingly candid tell-almost-all to Vanity Fair about how things actually operate in the MAGA cult leader's administration, and the fallout has been...interesting, to say the very least. In a series of ELEVEN on-the-record interviews, Wiles borrowed a wrecking ball from the East Wing demolition site and absolutely went to town on her colleagues, calling JD Vance a "conspiracy theorist," labeling Project 2025 architect and OMB Director Russell Vought a "right-wing absolute zealot," and excoriating Attorney General Pam Bondi's handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case. Wiles also said Trump himself had the personality of an alcoholic and hit Elon Musk for being an "avowed ketamine" addict. Wiles also let slip that Trump is actively seeking regime change in Venezuela, which, for the record, is definitely not what his mouthpieces are saying publicly. Wiles has predictably come out swinging, calling the Vanity Fair article a "disingenuously framed hit piece," a claim the writer, Chris Wipple, emphatically dismissed: "This was one of those cases as a reporter in your career when lightning strikes, and it was astonishing to me the extent to which she was unguarded and freewheeling on the record all the time," he told CNN’s Anderson Cooper. "Everything in the article was on the record. I recorded every interview." Christmas came early, folks. Enjoy it!
Donald Trump’s White House ballroom price tag suddenly jumps again
Lord Goldemort's garish $200 million ballroom that jumped to $250 million before it ballooned to $300 million just skyrocketed again to $400 million. But fret not, fellow taxpayers, the cost is being covered by a long list of mega-wealthy donors who definitely have nothing to gain from currying favor with the wannabe dictator. And, certainly, none of them are curiously flush with gobs of extra cash thanks to the massive tax cuts for the obscenely rich that were crammed in Trump's Big Bill of Bullshit. In no way (except every way) should anyone see this as a brazen quid pro quo, a $400 million thank you for pushing through the largest transfer of wealth TO the 1% from basically everyone else in modern American history. Or to hear Trump tell it, it's all one big act of charity: "We're donating a $400 million ballroom... I build under budget and ahead of schedule … always. I know how to build under budget. I build good." You sure do, Donnie! You build almost as good as you talk, in fact.

Republican Rep. Chip Roy rips GOP, says he's "sick" of the political games being played on his side of the aisle
Well, well, well. If it isn't Texas Representative and long-time Republican insider Chip Roy who's finally "sick" of the political games being played by members of his own party. Roy knows a thing or two about political games himself, having worked behind the scenes for decades with a whole host of Texas GOP household names, including Sen. John Cornyn (staff director and senior counsel), Gov. Rick Perry (ghostwriter and director of state-federal relations), Sen. Ted Cruz (chief of staff), Attorney General Ken Paxton (assistant attorney general), and Cruz yet again (PAC executive director). Roy's been a congressman since 2019, where he has happily played one political game after another on behalf of Donald Trump's presidencies and, of course, in opposition to Joe Biden's. On one occasion or another, Roy has thwarted natural disaster relief efforts, schemed with Trump's then-chief of staff Mark Meadows to overturn the 2020 election, voted against impeaching Trump for his failed insurrection despite calling his actions "impeachable," and fought the creation of the House Jan. 6 commission. But now he's finally sick of the GOP's games, which, to be clear, are DEFINITELY being played. Excuse us if we aren't moved by his newfound moral clarity.

CDC ends recommendation for all US newborns to receive hepatitis B vaccine
Welp, it was a good run, but it looks like hepatitis B is back on the menu, folks. After a remarkably successful, three-decade-long run, the CDC is ending its long-standing recommendation that all US newborns receive the hepatitis B vaccine. Under the unsteady misguidance of one worm-addled Robert F. Kennedy, the CDC's crackpot vaccine ill-advisory panel announced that, going forward, a birth dose should only be given to newborns whose mothers test positive for hepatitis B or whose status is unknown. The policy change marks an abrupt end to 30 years of established medical guidance. Since 1991, US health officials have recommended universal vaccination for infants against hepatitis B, with the first of three shots administered right after birth. Hepatitis B infections have fallen nearly 90% in the US from 9.6 per 100,000 individuals before vaccination became widespread in 1982 to about one per 100,000 in 2018. "This is going to lead to an increase in preventable infections among children,” Michaela Jackson, program director of prevention policy at the Hepatitis B Foundation, told The Guardian after the vaccine advisers’ vote earlier this month. She anticipates that "parents are not going to know who to trust any longer," which is precisely the point.

Trump says Miriam Adelson offered him "another $250 million" to run for a third term
Miriam Adelson and her husband, the late billionaire Sheldon Adelson, were the largest single donors to Donald Trump's presidential campaigns in 2016 and 2020, and in 2024 she ponied up yet again to the staggering tune of $100 million. So it comes as little surprise that, during yesterday's White House Hanukkah reception, the MAGA cult leader let slip that Adelson promised a whopping $250 million for him to seek a third term, which the Constitution explicitly prohibits. Adelson isn't joking. Speaking at the reception, she openly admitted to meeting with former Jeffrey Epstein attorney Alan Dershowitz where the pair discussed precisely how the wannabe dictator could weasel his way into a third term. "I said, 'Alan, I agree with you.' So, we can do it! Think about it!" she urged Trump, as the crowd broke into a very half-hearted chant of, "Four more years!" Hard pass.
Trump’s own staff are questioning his mental stability, says author Michael Wolff
Honestly, anyone NOT questioning the wannabe dictator's mental acuity at this point would be more of a story.

Trump plans huge handout for Big Oil and puts our coastline in serious danger
Protect Our Coast Coalition: At a time when our climate change studies are desperately begging us to stop fossil fuel pollution before it’s too late, Donald Trump just unveiled a huge new handout to Big Oil, proposing a new National Offshore Drilling Plan that would open up huge swathes of ocean in the Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, and California to industrial defilement. American taxpayers spent $1 TRILLION last year cleaning up from climate-related natural disasters, but Trump is happy to pass those costs on to us while his cronies get rich — and he’s putting our coastal communities and their livelihoods under threat from destructive oil spills. Click here to make your voice heard and tell the Trump team we want NO more offshore oil drilling!
Trader Joe’s limits number of eggs you can buy as prices soar ahead of Christmas
Hey, remember during last year's presidential campaign when JD Vance stood inside a grocery store to complain about the price of eggs and used his kids as political props, promising voters that Trump would swiftly usher in lower food prices in general, which was a big deal to him personally on account of his kids eating like "14 eggs a day?" Yeah, no. Not only has the price of eggs not dropped, they are now being rationed. Turns out Donald's magic wand wasn't as all-powerful as advertised and has had no effect on that most "beautiful" of "old-fashioned" words: groceries. For those keeping score at home, the average price of a dozen eggs in the US hit $4.15 in December. But wait, it gets even worse! Trump's own Agriculture Department has predicted prices will soar another 20% this year, and national breakfast chain Waffle House just announced it will add a 50-cent surcharge per egg on all of its menus. Really gives a whole new meaning to "Scattered, Smothered & Covered," doesn't it?
Jared Kushner pulls out of Paramount’s hostile bid for Warner Bros. Discovery
A private equity firm owned by Jared Kushner is no longer backing Paramount’s hostile acquisition bid for Warner Bros. Discovery, the firm confirmed Tuesday. Days after Warner agreed to be bought by Netflix in early December, Paramount launched a rival bid that seeks to bypass Warner’s management and appeal directly to its shareholders with more money. Paramount is offering $30 per Warner share to Netflix’s $27.75. Paramount, which is significantly smaller than Netflix, said its decision to circumvent Warner’s top managers came after they "never engaged meaningfully" with several earlier offers by the company. In its appeal to shareholders, Paramount had argued its offer may be more likely to pass regulatory scrutiny from the Trump administration, but Kushner’s decision to pull his firm’s financial backing certainly dilutes that sweetener. No matter who ends up on top here, one thing is almost certain: consumers will eventually pay more and get less.
