ICE agents emboldened by Kristi Noem and Stephen Miller are openly abusing immigrants—but they are also trampling on the Constitution by illegally detaining, attacking, and targeting U.S. citizens.

This is not only outrageous—it’s a betrayal that many would say constitutes “high crimes and misdemeanors” worthy of impeachment.

These are just a handful of headlines about ICE’s many abuses of the rights of American citizens, not to mention the outright contempt they have shown for basic human rights:

This is not normal. We can’t allow it to become normal. Our rights don’t go away because one person decrees it as such.  

The burden is on all of us to demand change from the bottom up. We have an opportunity coming up to sweep out every politician who hides their head in the sand or pretends everything is fine when it clearly isn’t. 

We can’t afford to elect a weak corporate-funded Democrat that won’t rise to this moment. We need proven leaders who have fought for us—and who always fight for us. 

I am a first generation Mexican-American human rights attorney who has served our country in uniform. I have worked for justice my whole life, from stopping the use of torture in our courts of law, to bringing justice to far-right killers.
