Dear FAMMily
My name is Kendrick Fulton, Jr., and recently you got an email from my dad, Kendrick, Sr. I was three years old when he went to prison, and I’m 26 now. I remember sitting in front of Nickelodeon, watching kids on TV unwrap presents with their parents and wondering why my holidays never looked like that. My dad always made sure he called every Christmas, but something was still missing. Those calls were just 20 minutes long, and the whole family had to pass the phone around to wish him happy holidays. Those calls meant everything to me.
He would tell me stories about the holidays with his own dad, how they put together a remote-control car one year and how he could not wait to do the same with me when he came home.
Then, in 2020, Christmas came early. My dad was released under CARES Act home confinement. I remember it clearly. He had only four hours before he needed to report to the halfway house, and the first thing he wanted to do was stop at Buc-ee's, our Houston staple. My family and I always went there before visiting him in prison, and when we mentioned it, he must have been paying attention because he made sure we grabbed a chicken fajita burrito.

Soon we’ll be celebrating the holidays. Watching him with his grandkids, taking photos and laughing, reminds me how far we have come. A few weeks ago, we went to the Cowboys v. Denver football game. I am a Denver fan and he is a Cowboys fan, so with a score of 40 to 24, you can imagine who was talking the most trash.
If you are able this holiday season, I hope you’ll support FAMM. Think of it as helping another kid go from cheering for their team through a prison phone call to celebrating a touchdown right next to their dad.
Your gift helps make holidays whole again. Will you donate to FAMM today? |
