Dear Friends,

Since its launch in 2022, the NRCAT National Network of Solitary Survivors (NNSS) has grown into an invaluable resource for solitary confinement survivors across the country, providing an essential space for people to connect, learn, and heal.

It has been an honor for me to lead this work at NRCAT, and watch as the group and its members grow and flourish. These individuals epitomize resilience – as they tell their stories, contribute to their communities, and advocate for policy change. No one should ever have had to endure the torture they experienced in a U.S. prison, jail, or immigration detention center.

Will you support our work today, standing with solitary survivors as We Refuse to Back Down?

This year, we strengthened and expanded the NNSS with the support of Naquasia Jones, our Outreach Coordinator. Through Naquasia’s leadership, NRCAT now supports a community of 100+ solitary survivors nationwide through their own quarterly newsletter, peer-to-peer support, and monthly education and community-building calls.

In October, Naquasia travelled to New Orleans to join solitary survivors in a symposium co-sponsored by NRCAT entitled Inside Out: From Isolation to Action – Torture in Our Name. The Louisiana Impacted Solitary Survivors Council led this two-day event that amplified faith and survivor voices in their campaign to end solitary confinement in Louisiana and the deep South.

Your donation to NRCAT supports state and local events like this one in New Orleans that center the voices and experience of survivors in the national movement to end solitary. Thanks to two generous donors, your gift will be doubled in our $30,000 year-end challenge match.

In solidarity,

Johnny Perez
Director of NRCAT’s U.S. Prisons Program
