New Yorkers just elected a mayor who sounds eerily familiar to folks who fled Castro’s Cuba. That’s not my opinion—that’s what Cuban exiles told me face to face on Victims of Communism Day here in Florida.

They said Mamdani’s promises of government-run grocery stores and radical “affordability” schemes were almost word-for-word what they heard in Havana before everything collapsed.

It never works out well.

Mamdani wants to defund the NYPD. He wants to send social workers on 911 calls. And if he gets his way, New Yorkers will soon look back on the De Blasio years as the good old days.

So what happens next?

They flee. And Florida’s real estate market braces for another wave. One New York Post headline said it best: 

But here’s the thing: You shouldn’t have to flee to get good governance. You shouldn’t need to move to find public safety, freedom, or economic sanity.

We joke in Florida about building a border wall or imposing tariffs to keep up with the influx of people. But here’s the truth: I want every American city to succeed—not just mine. I want New York, Chicago, and San Francisco to thrive again.

But that won’t happen unless we stop electing radicals.

Let’s make sure the next Mamdani doesn’t get a shot. Let’s take the fight to them—one battleground at a time.
