This September, I had the great honor of becoming the inaugural Andrew Bacevich Chair in American Diplomatic History at the Quincy Institute. It is a role that carries both personal meaning and profound responsibility.

Like many of you, I have long admired Andrew Bacevich’s courage, clarity, and moral seriousness. Across decades of scholarship and public engagement, Andy has challenged Americans to rethink the assumptions that have driven America into one war after another. His work—rigorous, humane, unflinching—has shaped a generation of thinkers who believe the United States must pursue a foreign policy rooted in military restraint and diplomacy, rather than militarism and domination.

The Quincy Institute established the Andrew Bacevich Chair to honor his role as our co-founder and ensure that his influence endures in the years ahead. My work in this position focuses on examining the historical roots of America’s global posture, exposing the interests that perpetuate interventionism, and charting more realistic and peaceful alternatives based on a careful analysis of history and politics. It is ambitious work—because it must be. The stakes could not be higher.

To ensure this Chair can fully realize its mission, I am asking for your support. Your contribution will strengthen the research, writing, and public engagement necessary to challenge the assumptions that drive America’s endless wars and to advance more responsible alternatives.
