He credited Our Revolution’s organizing for the progress our movement has made: “When we talk about climate change, raising the minimum wage, or ending institutionalized racism, we don’t have to debate it for two hours anymore.” On the call, Our Revolution also rolled-out national endorsements for State Sen. Martin Quezada and Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes.

This week, Our Revolution Connecticut held its first Statewide Organizing Meeting featuring State Senator Saud Anwar. A critical care doctor who has been treating pandemic patients, Dr. Anwar has been endorsed by Our Revolution HQ in his bid for reelection. At the meeting, he talked about the dire need to support essential workers, who are often the first to get sick and suffer in times of crisis. “Essential workers have never been treated as essential workers,” he said. “We have seen everything that is wrong with our society in real time.” Senator Anwar is leading the fight in Hartford against discriminatory housing laws that trap low-lage workers in poverty stricken areas.

Our Revolution Vermont held its first State Organizing Meeting and announced our first round of ORHQ endorsements ahead of the August 11 primary. Endorsements include Vermont Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman, who is running for governor, as well as State Sen. Chris Pearson, State Rep. Mari Cordes, and State Rep. Emilie Kornheiser, who are running for re-election. Zuckerman joined the call to talk about how his experience as a farmer helps him to reach voters in Vermont’s rural areas. “Rural areas have really struggled, so a progressive message resonates. When you get out there and talk to working people about the struggles they’re facing and how the system has really not helped them, that resonates. A lot of rural areas feel forgotten.”

We’re in a moment of national reckoning amid continuing state violence against communities of color at home and abroad, record job loss, and a re-surging coronavirus pandemic. Yet, despite these domestic problems, Congress continues to increase the Pentagon budget. The Congressional Progressive Caucus, Sen. Bernie Sanders and Sen. Ed Markey - are leading an effort to redirect 10 percent of the Pentagon's budget to invest in communities experiencing high poverty rates.

Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) to call on the Senate to pass the Heroes Act and fund essential services by making sure the rich pay their fair share. Robin Kelly who talked about the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, a wide-ranging bill that attempts to hold law enforcement accountable, which has passed in the House but is stalled in the Senate. “This is a bill that should have been passed years ago,” said Rep. Kelly. “I hope and pray that the time of change has arrived. That this is not a moment, this is a movement.”

The Democratic party must lead the way on bold climate solutions. That’s why we’re asking you to call on the DNC to adopt the platform recommendations of the DNC’s own Environment and Climate Crisis Council. “This is good policy, and it’s good politics - voters want elected officials to take more action,” said Michelle Deatrick, leader of Our Revolution Michigan and chair of the council.
