Gov. Bob Ferguson issued an emergency order on December 10 in response to the atmospheric river and resulting floods in several areas of Western Washington.
Insurance Commissioner Patty Kuderer has sent a letter to insurance companies outlining the expectations for how claims should be handled and filed an emergency order granting grace periods for nonpayment of premiums and extending the notification period for policy non-renewals from 45 to 120 days.
Kuderer’s office sent staff to a town hall meeting in Burlington Monday night to answer questions on insurance coverage and has staff ready to set up shop at any disaster recovery centers to provide additional information and claims guidance.
This post on the OIC's 'Commissioner's Eye on Insurance' blog offers tips on cleaning up safely, filing a claim, what to expect from your insurance company, and what a flood policy covers, along with addressing a few frequently-asked questions.
