Dear Friend,
As positive cases of COVID-19 continue to rise throughout North Texas, I am fighting to bring federal support for testing to Dallas County. Federal support for COVID-19 testing will allow our local health officials to more efficiently respond to the public health crisis and curb the spread of the coronavirus so that we can return to normal as soon as safely possible.
When I learned that federally funded testing sites throughout Dallas County were taking eight to ten days to deliver results, I teamed up with Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson (TX-30) and Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) to urge the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide federal support for testing supplies in Dallas County. Such lengthy turnaround times are too long to be helpful. Dallas County has reported over two weeks of consecutive days with more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases. Our coronavirus response must keep up with the rising level of new cases.
The health and safety of North Texas families is my top priority. I will continue to fight at the federal level to support our local officials in combating the spread of the coronavirus. Like so many North Texans I’ve spoken with, I too want to get back to normal. That can only be done when we have a comprehensive plan of testing, tracing and treatment for COVID-19.
Defending our region against the coronavirus is something that every North Texan can contribute to. Wear a mask and stay six feet apart in public spaces, stay home if you’re sick, wash your hands, and continue to follow CDC guidelines. We will get through this together. I will continue to fight for resources for our community.
