Hi Friends,
This past weekend, two mass shootings at Brown University and Bondi Beach in Australia shocked our nation and the world. My heart goes out to all the victims, their families, and their communities.
I don’t accept mass shootings as an inevitability. We can make policy choices to reduce gun violence and save lives. That’s why I’ve supported and voted for legislation that would enact universal background checks, ban assault weapons, close ineligible gun owner loopholes, and more.
Too many lives have been cut short because of gun violence. I will not stop working to pass these bills into law.
It’s also important to recognize that the shooting in Australia was during a Hanukkah celebration. At a time when antisemitism is on the rise, we must all speak out loudly against it. No one person can stop bigotry. But we can all make the choice every day to respect each other—whether it be our neighbor or someone we’ve never met—and that makes a difference.
As we enter the holiday season, I hope you all can share love and light with your friends and family.
Thanks,
Peter
