John,

While the country faces a myriad of crises, Donald Trump is focused on remodeling.

He isn’t just destroying the East Wing of the White House―he’s racing to bypass legally required procedures in order to speed up the demolition of the Wilbur Cohen Federal Building, called “The Sistine Chapel of the New Deal.”

It’s not enough that Trump and Elon Musk have spent 2025 taking a figurative wrecking ball to the Social Security Administration. Now, they are undertaking an Orwellian exercise in eradicating the history of Social Security.

The Trump administration wants to move fast―perhaps even during the holidays―to destroy our connection to Social Security’s creation. Can you rush a donation to fight back?

Social Security was created for a purpose. Before Social Security was enacted, half of seniors lived in poverty. Today, fewer than 10% do. That’s why the New Deal was greeted with such exultation.

The Wilbur Cohen Federal Building, just a few blocks from the Capitol, was built to be the Social Security Administration’s headquarters, and as such was filled with art to inspire the public servants who came through its doors. The most famous of these, The Meaning of Social Security, is one of many multi-panel frescos painted directly onto the walls of the building.

This is more than a building. This is a statement of the principle that America sticks together. That’s the principle that the Trump administration wants to destroy.

Worst of all, there is no reason to demolish this historic building or the art it holds. Sen. Joni “We’re all going to die” Ernst slipped a provision into an unrelated water resources bill that authorizes the building’s destruction. There’s no plan to replace it―it will simply be American history replaced with a pile of rubble, less than a mile from the pile of rubble that was once the East Wing.

The Trump administration has declared open war on our Social Security system all year―from forcing out 7,000 employees of the Social Security Administration, to stealing our private data, to slating Social Security offices to close. Destroying this building and the art inside it would signal to Americans that we cannot restore our Social Security system. We need to show them that we won’t stand by and let him destroy Social Security.

We’re rallying our allies on Capitol Hill to STOP the destruction of Social Security’s history. Can you rush a donation today?
