I’m reaching out with a request that I think really matters for the future of the Democratic Party. Let me explain.
In the past, I have largely avoided getting involved in primaries, but this year, I feel like it’s really important for our party to elect leaders who will really fight for people.
That’s why I joined a number of my colleagues, including Senators Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, to endorse Peggy Flanagan for the open U.S. Senate seat in Minnesota.
She’s been a true champion for clean government, a higher minimum wage and paid family leave. She’s taken a clear stance in the fight against corporations having power over our government.
She agrees that we need a fundamental shift in Washington to put power back in the hands of the people. I’ll share more about my decision to get involved in a moment.
But if you already know why electing a fighter like Peggy matters, I hope you will pitch in a contribution of any amount to her campaign. She has an important FEC deadline this month, and your support would go a long way.

Our party is at a crossroads where we must answer a defining question about who we believe should have power.
Are we going to continue with a status quo that gives corporations vast influence over government and settles for tiny incremental change? Or are we going to overhaul a corrupt system to deliver life changing economic change for working people?
Peggy is running to take on the corruption that plagues our politics. Like me, she doesn’t take any corporate PAC money, supports banning corporate money in politics, and wants to ban members of Congress from trading stocks. She’s a true reformer of our democracy.
As I’ve talked to folks this year, I’ve heard over and over that what people want in Washington are fighters. And Peggy has a record of doing just that as lieutenant governor. She didn’t wait until it was popular or tested well in polls. She took risks to challenge the corporate greed that is squeezing working families.
But this puts a target on Peggy. Plenty of corporate interests are willing to spend significant sums to keep her out of the Senate. So I’m asking you to join me in having her back:
