This week, the U.S. House of Representatives is considering two bills that would undermine access to gender-affirming health care for transgender, intersex, and nonbinary people, particularly trans youth and low-income families. H.R. 3492 would criminalize health care providers who offer gender-affirming care to trans youth, threatening doctors, families, and young people with punishment for accessing medically necessary care.
H.R. 498 would block low-income trans youth from accessing gender-affirming care through Medicaid, deepening existing health inequities.
Call your representatives now and use this sample script: “Hi, my name is [your name], and I’m a constituent from [your city/state]. I’m calling to urge you to vote NO on H.R. 3492 and H.R. 498. Trans people deserve access to safe, affirming health care, and decisions about our bodies should be made by patients and medical professionals, not politicians. Thank you.”
