Dear John,

“We are strong and resilient together, and we will remain so even in the face of adversity.” This vital message of unity from ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt came through clearly on yesterday’s special

During the discussion, Daniel Aghion, President of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, talked about the heartbreak of seeing the progressive escalation of antisemitic hate across Australia since 10/7. He noted the failings of Australia’s government to address this threat, but hopes that will change as "the part of the Australian community that is known as the silent majority is speaking" and demanding support for the Jewish community.

ADL’s Marina Rosenberg, SVP International Affairs and Susan Heller Pinto, VP International Policy were in Australia just last week for a J7 summit with other global Jewish leaders. They voiced our solidarity with Daniel and Australian Jewry and called on the Australian government to implement an action plan on antisemitism that was developed by the government’s own Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism. As Marina vowed, “We stand shoulder to shoulder with you today as you mourn, tomorrow as you rebuild, and every day as you continue to live proudly and unapologetically as Jews. You are not alone.”

Addressing the safety concerns that are front of mind for everyone concerned about public gatherings, Oren Segal, SVP Counter-Extremism and Intelligence summed up ADL guidance including coordination with law enforcement, widening safety cordons and adding layers of on-site security protection.

Now is a time for solidarity and for making this Hanukkah a time when we shine light into the darkness. You can take action to send the same vital message! Here’s how:

👉 This Hanukkah, show up for the Jewish community with three easy steps:

1. Participate in community menorah lightings and Hanukkah celebrations.
2. Take pictures and videos and post them on social media to show your pride and express your support for the Jewish community of Australia and around the world.
3. Tag ADL and include the hashtag #TogetherWeLight so we can reshare messages of hope in our channels.
See below for ADL resources mentioned during the discussion, as well as links so you can see how Jonathan Greenblatt and Marina Rosenberg are sharing our message about fighting global antisemitism in news outlets such as CNN, MS NOW and NPR.

TAKE ACTION: Increase Security Grants to Protect Synagogues

There has been a surge in antisemitic violence. Synagogues and Jewish schools face impossible choices: prayer books or bulletproof glass? Teachers or security guards? The Nonprofit Security Grant Program helps, but current funding isn't enough. Hundreds of houses of worship need protection and aren't getting it. Speak out with ADL.
