I told the Washington Post exactly what I told you.

I will not back down to Trump, no matter what he throws my way.

Because as racist and unbecoming his attacks on me are, they pale in comparison to the damage being done by his administration and his party’s far-right policies.

Over the last weeks I have seen my community targeted, demonized, harassed, pepper-sprayed, zip-tied, beaten, arrested, and detained without charges.

Trump is going after his political enemies and entire groups of people that his hateful Republicans allies want to silence, and he’s using ICE as his thuggish personal police force to carry out those goals.

We have a historic responsibility to organize against this corrupt presidency and protect our communities from these attacks.

In countries across the world, fascism and totalitarianism have been defeated through the sheer determination of democracy and mass movements.

That’s why I’m laser-focused on building progressive power, from our neighborhoods here in Minneapolis to the halls of Congress, with an eye on next year’s midterm elections as our chance to strike a major blow to Trump’s ability to carry out his agenda.
