Dear John,
In this week's newsletter, supporting our military, honoring the memory of Jay Larson, and meeting with Illinoisans. If you need help with federal agencies, please reach out to one of my offices listed at the bottom of the newsletter.
Supporting our Military
With ever-evolving threats and foreign adversaries working every day to undermine the US, it is critical that we ensure our military is prepared to handle any challenge.
I was proud to support the FY26 National Defense Authorization Act which:
- Provides a 3.8% pay raise for our troops
- Modernizes military equipment
- Grows domestic defense manufacturing
- Increases benefits for military families
- Strengthens border security
- Bolsters our defense against emerging AI and cyber threats

Working to Strengthen our Rural Communities
Had a great meeting with Illinois’ USDA Rural Development Director, Jesus Ortega, to discuss ways we can expand opportunities and promote economic growth in rural Illinois.
I’m grateful for his tireless work to support families, farmers, and small businesses across our state!

Celebrating 389 Years of the National Guard
On Saturday, we celebrated the birthday of the oldest military organization in our country - the U.S. National Guard!
Grateful for the brave men and women of Peoria's 182nd Airlift Wing and all the members of our National Guard for their selfless service at home and abroad!
Working to Counter the Chinese Communist Party
The CCP will use any tool at its disposal to hollow out critical industries, including the U.S. auto industry, and undermine global economic competitiveness.
We must continue to work with our like-minded allies to combat the CCP’s predatory economic tactics and protect American workers.

Meeting with the Belfords
Always enjoy the opportunity to meet with Illinoisans on Capitol Hill!
It was great to catch up with Rhonda and Michael Belford during their time in D.C. to talk about what Congress is working on to lower costs for families and strengthen our economy.
One More Thing: Honoring Jay Larson
Jay Larson exemplified the best of our Midwestern values during his 25 years of service to the Rockford community. I’m grateful to my colleagues in the House for supporting the legislation I co-led with Representative Sorensen to rename the Harrison Avenue Post Office in Jay’s honor.
