I’d like to congratulate Maryland State Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk on her election as Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates!

Joseline Peña-Melnyk has dedicated her career to serving Marylanders as a councilwoman and, since 2007, as a delegate for Maryland’s 21st district. She has worked on health and economic policy aimed at improving the lives of Maryland families, and I look forward to her continued advocacy as speaker. She’s already a member of the Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame, and now she’ll make history again!

Her election also marks a special moment in our history, as she is now the second woman and the first Afro-Latina to lead a chamber in the Maryland General Assembly.

I look forward to our work together to make Maryland a more equitable, resilient, and prosperous state!
