Dear John,

Following backroom deals by congressional leadership, two anti-trans bills will be voted upon in the House tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 17th) and Thursday (Dec. 18th). Together, they threaten the dignity, safety, and respect transgender youth deserve.

H.R. 3492 would criminalize gender-affirming care for transgender young people at the federal level—making it a felony punishable for both parents and providers by up to 10 years in prison. The language is so broad that it could interfere not only with doctors’ ability to provide best-practice medical care, but also with parents’ ability to support their own children.

H.R. 498 would eliminate Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care for transgender young people, placing essential healthcare even further out of reach for families who need it most.

These bills represent an unprecedented intrusion into the private relationship between families, their doctors, and the care young people need to thrive. They also explicitly discriminate against transgender youth who need this care; non-transgender youth who access such care will continue to have that access.

TAKE ACTION TODAY! Urge your Representative to oppose these discriminatory bills and protect the health and well-being of ALL youth.

We must keep fighting for our pride—because love and liberty are inseparable. Take action TODAY.

In solidarity,

Katie
